My Creative Writing (a short story)
Healing With Art
It was a journey about healing and finding myself again with art. During lockdown, I had a very challenging time with my mental health. Every day alone in my room, restricting my artistic personality from inspiration. One night I looked in the mirror, not knowing who stared back at me. I felt like two strangers were staring at each other. I was lost. I found my hand going through my makeup tools as I thought about the softness of the brushes, reminding me how I used to enhance my features with makeup before school every morning. The bitter feeling made my eyes water as a tear ran down my cheek and fell on my makeup palette. Saw colors I hadn’t seen in months. I picked a brush and rushed into the color green as I dabbed it around my eye, almost covering half of my face. The shades of green contoured a shape of a creature framed by a red pigment scar. The alien inside me emerged from my body. It was the first time that I saw my wound concrete. I took a good look at it before I wept it away; I was ready to separate the venomous dark feelings and heal with the abstractness of art. Thus, now I am healing and moving forward positively using my brushes.
